Use
It is the raw material for the manufacture of barium salt. It can be used as an insecticide to control a variety of plant pests. Brine and boiler water used for refining electrolytic caustic soda. Also used in the preparation of pigments. Textile industry and leather industry used as mordant and rayon matting agent. Machinery industry for quenching and metal processing.
Nature
Colorless monoclinic crystal. Density 3.097 g/cm3. Boiling point 35.7 ℃. Soluble in water. Slightly soluble in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, very slightly soluble in alcohol. 2 water of crystallization is lost when heated to 113 ℃. Poisonous! It is made of barite and molten barium sulfide reduced by coal, after wet grinding, and adding hydrochloric acid under stirring. It can also be prepared by using molten barium sulfide reduced by barite and coal powder, leaching with calcium chloride solution, and then treating the leaching solution containing barium sulfide and calcium chloride with carbon dioxide. Used in the manufacture of other barium salts, barium ground like paper, rayon matting agent, metal heat treatment of high temperature quenching agent, neutral heating agent, organic pigment filling agent and insecticide etc.
